12/22/07 Last Wednesday we came home and mom saw a rat in the kitchen .And he ran under the stove so we turned it on and mom told me to watch the stoves top and he was this big (arms extended) which means 8 inches with out the tail. I new because he came out and I screamed and he ran behind the fridge and we rolled the fridge out and he ran under the freezer. We stuck a wire under the freezer, and poked him out. We had made a wall of stuff so he couldn’t get out of the pantry, and I was holding something in place. I was sitting down and when we hit him out with the wire, he ran, jumped over what I was holding, and landed in my lap. He scratched me on my leg, and I screamed so loud that Mom said now we probably have a weak-hearted, deaf rat in our house. When he jumped out of my lap and ran under the counter. Thankfully I didn’t have any nightmares that night. By Hannah P.S. Saturday night we caught the rat in a trap. I’m very glad we caught him.

9/21/07 I went to the dentist last week. He was here on a work team with Katie’s family. Today is Sunday and I went last Friday. They pulled out two teeth that had big cavities and Mom did not remember to put the money under my pillow. Haha I just reminded her.
The main thing that happened since the last time I wrote is that McKenna left for 8 to 6 months and won’t even be back for Christmas. Her whole family went so I have been playing with Katie a lot. We play dress up and pretend we are fairies. Gabriel and Bethany play too sometimes. We have names too. My name is Lily, Katie’s is Cloe, Gabriel is Berryboy, and we just call Bethany “Your Highness” because she is the queen. At first Gabriel was a pirate, but then he became a fairy, too.
Faith is getting big and she has been eating more and more food. She is noisy and smiles a lot.
One day I tried to wear all pink, carry a purse that was pink and everything in it was pink because pink is my favorite color. Gabriel’s favorite color used to be red, but now it is green.
Well I’ve got to go for now. Bye.
Love, Hannah

9/13/07 I’m sorry I haven’t written an update sooner. It seemed like last week I wrote one, but really it was last month. I hope a lot of people will come visit. Tomorrow is the missionary girl named McKenna’s birthday party.
We went to the ocean last Saturday. It was fun. We found two great climbing trees. Gabriel found a very pretty rock with crystals in a dip on one side. I found out that in Haiti it rains at least once a week and almost every night. It sometimes rains so much that there was a puddle in our flower bed up to my ankles but of course, that was way worse than the hurricane. Well Haiti is fun still. Love Hannah

7/23/07 There is a girl here named Katie she is 4, she does not like Gabriel though. She wants to play with me but sometimes I want to play with McKenna and the big Kids. I hope people will come visit us. It was Mark Gutwein’s Birthday Saturday. We had a water balloon fight. We played tug a war and had a three Leged race. It was fun. We made a piñata and I still have a big bag of candy. We are all going to spend the night at Gutwein’s tonight because mom and dad are going to Port-au-Prince. Faith is getting big now. We bought a walker for her. She goes EVERYWHERE. After we take her out then we have to find it again in the morning. Got to go, bye. Love Hannah

7/15/07 There is a missionary girl here whose name is McKenna. She is 8 and would be a great friend for Maddie Waibel because they are both 8 and are the same height. Her family was on furlough when we first got here. She loves to climb the tree in our yard and I can finally climb the tree by myself without any help. We have a club in the tree. We have a lot of fun playing games together. One time Bethany and I spent the night at her house. It was a cold room because it had air conditioning and a fan blowing right on us. We were freezing. At their house they have a swing hooked to a tree and a tree house. It’s really fun to swing from the tree house steps. McKenna says we’re obsessed with the swing, but we think she’s obsessed with the tree in our yard.
The church that we go to here is very loud because the Haitians sing very loud. They have communion once a month. They had it just a little bit ago, but we don’t do it with them. I don’t like it when the services are very long because it feels like you’ve been sitting there forever and you need to move and you are very hot!!
There are some Haitian girls that come here selling candy. We made crosses made out of beads and string for all four of them. Sarah caught a tarantula wasp. It is a big wasp with moth type wings that stings tarantulas and kills them. We’ve been having fun here. Got to go.

6-17-07 We met a boy who makes barrettes of bamboo and coconut shells. Sarah gave him some money and some marbles and he gave us some tarantulas. The first one got out through a huge air hole that we were supposed to put the food through, and one of them we let go hoping it would stay in the place where we let it go, but it didn't. Then he gave us the other that we still have and are hoping to find more food for. It lives in a shoe box that Kathy sent us. Maybe we should send it back to her. J
There’s a library at the mission school that we have Wednesday night church in. Every Wednesday we check out at least one book. They have the Hardy Boy Series and other really cool series. I have fun reading the books.

Hannah 5-31-07 Yesterday we caught a ton of butterflies. Later we let them go. Two butterflies landed on my hand and wouldn’t leave. Some died and we pinned them to a piece of cardboard along with a huge beetle. I intend to pin more bugs. There are tons of lizards around, but we haven’t found a tarantula here at our house, but we did see one at the guest house but he was outside. Sarah caught a very small lizard and she had him bite my ear. She said it was like an earring. It was so small, it didn’t hurt. We picked a coconut and broke it open. It had tons of meat and milk. There is a tree with a rope and one board left of a tree fort, but it is good enough without it. Sarah and Bethany found two more trees that they can climb, but I have to be a little taller.
