Last Wednesday, was Tim's birthday and Tuesday was Bethany's. I bought two cake mixes in town earlier in the week and I was glad that they had them at all, (although Bethany's had little black things in the mix that we just picked out and didn't look at too closely.) This week has gone pretty well and with the help from Mdm. La La and Mdm. Juclyn, we are starting to make this into a real home. :) The windows got finished last Friday except for a coat of paint on the rebar outside, and Saturday I scrubbed the floors in the kids room and then moved the beds to their permanent positions. We went to the building where the Andersen's (the people who used to live in this house) things are stored and got the bunk beds out for Hannah and Gabriel's room. It helps that we were able to purchase some of their things and also some of the things from others here. So all in all we are starting to feel like we are settling into "home sweet home".
Faith is doing much better. I started to thinking about what I am eating that is so different from before and came to realize that the powered milk is the major problem. In Peoria, I drank a lot of milk. That is something that is not readily available here so everybody gets powered milk. It was causing Faith to have a lot of gas pains. So I tried the "shelf milk" that they have here that is in a box and doesn't need refrigeration until it is opened, but she still seemed to have problems. Oh well, water in your cereal really isn't that bad. Anyway, she is back to her sweet self and growing well. Val Gutwein let me borrow her swing for now and she really seems to like that. She loves to be held so that she can stand up and look around. Bethany seemed to enjoy her birthday. We had the missionary kids all come for the party and she got the table all ready and made little name tags for each one. For one of her gifts, Tim and I just gave her some Haitian money so she can look around in town and see what she wants to buy. It's pretty impressive to be given 7 bills with 100's on them until you get to figuring the exchange. The money here is written in Gourdes and there is 5 Gourdes to the Haitian dollar. So each 100 bill is really worth 20 Haitian dollars. Then there are about 7 Haitian dollars right now to each US dollar, so really those 7 - 20 Haitian dollar bills are the equivalent of a $20 US bill. Oh, well - like I say it looks good.
